What is it like to be a Kickstart Employer?

What is it like to be a Kickstart Employer?

Today we will be sharing some feedback from one of our employers on the Kickstart Programme.

Selby District AVS are a registered charity that provides advice, support and information to enable Voluntary and Community Sector groups in Selby District to develop and thrive. They have offered 12 opportunities through the Kickstart programme.

We asked them…

How are you finding being an employer on the Kickstart Programme?

“The relationship between Better Connect, Work Coaches at the Job Centre and our organisation has been really positive, ensuring that we can provide the best employer experience we can.”

What has it been like to bring a young person into your organisation?

“We pride ourselves on being a welcoming, inclusive, and dynamic organisation and it’s been great to bring in new perspectives and ideas.”

What has been enjoyable about bringing a young person into your organisation?

“It’s exciting sharing the work of the community and voluntary sector with a young person, who may have had little experience of what goes on in an organisation like ours. It’s our opportunity to encourage young people to think of a career in this sector in the future.”

Have you learnt any lessons as an employer?

“Our organisation doesn’t tend to take on employees at the start of their career and therefore we have had to make adjustments in recognition that our Kick Start employees have little formal work experience to date. We can all remember the challenges of our first job, so it’s been important for us provide clear work schedules, task breakdowns and regular catch-up meetings with line managers.”

Thank you to Selby District AVS for the support you are offering young people through the Kickstart Programme. We will be sharing feedback from other employers over the next few months!
