“The work I’m doing on Kickstart is helping me feel confident in myself and my own decisions which is changing me for the better”

I never thought I would be involved in Kickstart; however, it has taken over my life in the best way!

At the start of the pandemic, I had to come home to finish of my degree online following this time I found myself on universal credit and working a low hour’s part time job. This led to an exhausting process between searching for a new job, job centre calls and working a job which was physically and mentally draining. This endless cycle had me losing confidence in myself and my own ability.

At this point I was sent the job advert for the Kickstart Assistant at Better Connect, this was a job that I would have never thought would fit me. It wasn’t an active job working in the outdoors like I was looking for. But, after looking at the website, the values of the company made me apply and after a successful interview further showcasing the company values, I wanted to be a part of this company.

Starting any new job can be a nerve-wracking process but, working with the people in this company has made it so much easier; despite working here for only a couple of months, I already feel like a valued part of the team.

Hosting regular 2pm calls with a random question has not only helped me learn about others but, has helped me to feel more open to be myself at a job again.

Working on Kickstart has been so interesting for me; every day I find myself trying to be creative and engaging myself with partners and the young people also working in Kickstart jobs. This has been rewarding in multiple ways from learning how much others are enjoying their kickstart jobs, the rewards they receive from their work and feeling once again, proud of myself for the work I am doing. The work I’m doing on Kickstart is helping me feel confident in myself and my own decisions which is changing me for the better.

This is a job I am loving doing, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else it brings.
