The Omari Family Story

The Omari Family Story

Last month, our Impact Team had the pleasure of creating a film with Inspired Youth, featuring the inspirational Omari family and their keyworkers Yesmien and Amanda from Craven College

Through the Multiply programme, Keyworkers Yesmien and Amanda met the Omari Family, Ahmad and Mozghan and their 11 children, who fled Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2021 following governmental collapse.

Yesmien, Amanda and the College have supported the family with everything from adjusting to life in the UK, to integrating into Skipton’s community, and making the family’s dream of starting their own restaurant – a reality.

Through Multiply’s numerical lens, they were able to offer a range of business support with booking systems, budgeting, profit margins, food hygiene certifications – and where to buy Halal food:

“Yesmien came and she taught me how to buy Halal food, she introduced us to the College, my children go to the College now. She helped me with my business.”

Chef Mozghan and her family have since set up Popup Restaurant – Afghan Star Cuisine – serving traditional Afghanistan dishes to the locals of Skipton, and are running regular sell-out events at Embsay with Eastby Village Hall, garnering a host of incredible feedback and community support.

A huge thank you to The Omari Family, Craven College and Kev from Inspired Youth for such a fantastic day and we are so delighted to share your inspirational story
