About ESF Community Grants

Delivering transformational support to unemployed and economically inactive people across York and North Yorkshire.

Grants from £5,000 to £20,000 are available to fund dynamic, community based support projects that move unemployed or economically inactive people who are over 18 closer to employment, volunteering or further education.

ESF Community Grants is part of the European Social Fund Programme distributing £2,000,000 in small grants across Humber, York and North Yorkshire.

This project is funded by the European Social Fund and the Education and Skills Funding Agency and is managed across the York, North Yorkshire and the Humber area by Humber Learning Consortium.  Better Connect is responsible for the delivery over the York, North Yorkshire area.

What is ESF Community Grants?

Do you think you have an exciting project idea that aims to move people closer towards employment or education – we’d like to hear from you!

ESF Community Grants is part of the European Social Fund Programme distributing £2,000,000 in small grants across Humber, York and North Yorkshire.

Funding is available for projects between £5,000 to £20,000. To be eligible to apply you must be one of the following types of organisations and have an annual turnover of under £1m.

  • Small Charity
  • Not for profit organisation
  • Community Interest Company (CIC)
  • Community Group
  • Social Enterprise

We have funded many different types of activities through Community Grants. From traditional employment support to confidence building, arts, gardening, woodworking, and mental health workshops. All projects must support individuals to progress towards employment or further education.

Projects must be delivered in York or North Yorkshire.

This is an actual cost contract which means we pay you for what you spend on the grant. Learner paperwork and financial claims are required to be completed as part of this funding.
