Meet our new Engagement Manager – Hannah!

Hello everyone!

Many of you will already know me as I have worked at Better Connect since 2017! I started off in the Programmes Team as an Assistant. Since then, I have worked across various funding streams and programmes and have always sought new opportunities and ways to be involved in pretty much everything that we do! I have grown and developed within this organisation and was promoted to management level in 2020 (just before covid hit!). Programme Management was something I really enjoyed but did find challenging! I have always been drawn to more creative flowing tasks like building presentations, marketing, social media, networking and I have always dreamed of a role that would allow me to do those things on a daily basis.

What is the new Role?

From Monday 21st February I will be stepping into the role of the Engagement Manager at Better Connect. This is super exciting for me as it is a role that will allow me to use my creativity and ‘people’ skills every day.

I will be creating and increasing engagement and connection with people in many different ways such as through social media, our website, networking, events and presentations. I absolutely love building strong relationships with partners, meeting new people and really getting to know why people are the way they are and why they do what they do!

My aim will be to increase the reach of Better Connect! To let people know who we are, what we do and also let them know about the amazing partners that we work with. There are so many organisations we are not connected to and I want to meet them – talk to them – connect with them!

A bit about me..

I have a BA (Hons) in Theatre, specialising in working with and supporting Young People with learning difficulties and mental health issues to gain confidence and feel safe in positive spaces. I thrive in a creative environment and try to bring those skills into everything I do at Better Connect.

I began my career at 16, working in customer service roles until the age of 23. I will always be grateful for the experience I gained in these roles and feel that they helped me to engage with partners and stakeholders. After finishing University, I worked at York Theatre Royal as a Research and Evaluation Graduate Intern within the Creative Engagement Team. Whilst at the Theatre, I learnt about the voluntary sector and began volunteering with various community groups in York delivering theatre-style workshops to vulnerable people.

I am inspired every day by the amazing work that partners do in their communities. I love being part of an organisation that wants to make a positive difference in the world.
